BATH OLD TIME DANCERS 11th DANCING HOLIDAY
Storm Claudia, promised to make an appearance for our Old Time Dancing Holiday in Dawlish. As usual we were staying at the Langstone Cliff Hotel in Dawlish Warren, our happy place. Once we had set up the ballroom and settled into our room we met up with dancers in the lounges and there was the usual laughter and chatter as dancers greeted one another. At six o’clock we gathered for a drinks reception, prior to the evening meal, as we did each evening, with more greetings, chat and laughter. After a delicious evening meal we were ready for the first nights dancing and the ballroom floor soon filled with dancers for the first dance of the event, the Manhattan Blues. David Last played the music for all three nights of our holiday and as always he never disappoints playing some wonderful music. As it is an Old Time Dancing holiday we had a set dance each evening and there were always five sets dancing, as we enjoy a bit of fun we always include a fun dance on all three programmes. We also include a few games, prizes and elimination dances. The first evening we had some games of “Play Your Cards Night”, with the help of Paul’s two dodgy dealers Frances and Dianne. The elimination dances were on the second and third nights for a huge arrangement of chocolates and a large bottle of whisky respectively. We hold a relaxed request morning on the Tuesday and this year as it fell on the 11th of November we held a two minutes silence. Then on the Tuesday evening the theme was red and black and we had a fund raising dance with a large Christmas basket as first prize and two Cd’s donated by Maestro Direct, we raised £165 for the Royal British Legion. All too soon it was the last evening dance and we finished with the Friendly Waltz, Auld Lang Syne and The King. A big thank you to David for the superb music, all those who helped to lead dances, Nigel Carter for the group photograph, the Cove ladies for clearing all the decorations, the gent’s who volunteered to help move David’s equipment and all those who helped us drinking in the bar after the dances! We are already planning for next year and looking forward to staying at the Lovely Langstone Cliff Hotel again.

April Tea Dance
There was a great atmosphere for our April Tea Dance with music by David Last. The dance was sold out and an afternoon tea or as we say in the West Country a “proper tea” was provided for the 50 dancers. As for the music by David Last what can we say he played the most superlative music that created such a wonderful atmosphere that everyone enjoyed. We were delighted to welcome 4 dancers from Australia who are visiting the UK for April and part of May, dancing at various locations around the Country. They knew some of the dances on the programme and joined in with the Progressive Quadrilles that they had not seen before but really enjoyed. A big thank you for the support to all the dancers who attended and a special thankyou to all our helpers, we could not do it without you. |
