BATH OLD TIME DANCERS 10TH DANCING HOLIDAY
This year we celebrated the 10th Anniversary of one of the best decisions we made, to run an Old Time Dancing holiday at The Langstone Cliff Hotel in Dawlish. We are grateful and overwhelmed with the continued support, it has been an incredible journey of dancing friendship and fun and once again we were sold out with 85 dancers. We had three evening programmes of traditional Old Time Dancing with a few Classical sequence dances and the usual fun dances, where else can you dance the Teapot dance? David Last our musician for the holiday played the most wonderful music to accompany the dancing, he played everything from The Beatles to Beethoven and gave a virtuoso performance. We had four sets of The Lancers on Monday night, 5 sets of The Quadrilles on Tuesday night and 5 groups dancing The Virginia Reel on the Wednesday night. The regular social dance on the Tuesday morning was well attended and Kathy’s shoes gave the dancers chance to purchase some new dance shoes. Peter Ollis a staunch supporter of our holidays, celebrated his 90th Birthday on the Tuesday evening. Carolyn who attended the holiday for the first time this year also had a Birthday on the same day. Of course we also had the usual fun lots of games with chances to win prizes, Margaret’s ding bats, that everyone has a go at working out as they have their pre-dinner drinks. The Langstone Cliff hotel never disappoints, fantastic accommodation, delicious food with plenty of choice on the menu, friendly & helpful staff and a beautiful large Ballroom.
Everyone joined in with the Blue theme for the last night to celebrate 10 years and now we are looking forward to many more years. As we left we were virtually full for next year with just two rooms available.

September Tea Dance was well supported once again and sold out with a full house. We had people from all over the Country, Kent, Sussex, Devon, Cornwall, Oxford, Wrexham, Banbury, Barnsley, Kettering and Christchurch also members from The Old Time Dance Society. Once again live music with David Last and as usual he played fantastic to a lot of favourite tunes. We are lucky and grateful for the support we get all year to be able to have live music, think we are the only old time club that has live music. In the interval we all sat down to a proper tea including sandwiches, cakes and pastries.
A big thank you to everyone who helped make it an excellent afternoon. Our next tea dance is 11 April 2025 with David Last |
Our June dance was a celebration of the life of Robin Eddolls a Bath Old Time Dancer who passed away earlier this year. Robin was a Modern Sequence dancer at heart but he loved Gavottes and with his wife Pauline had supported Bath Old Time Dancers and our dancing holidays for many years. Pauline and Robin were also members of The Old Time Dance Society and came on many events until his health problems stopped him. We arranged, as a surprise for Pauline, for David Last to play for us as Robin was also a staunch supporter of David Last. Pauline and her daughter provided some extra lovely cakes and we all remembered Robin as we enjoyed the afternoon. |
Our monthly dances continue to be well supported and in March we had 36 attending, with lots of the dancers travelling some distance to attend. As it was nearly Easter we had hot cross buns and chocolate sponge decorated with Easter eggs in the interval and all the dancers were given an Easter egg. The programme included some good old, Old Time Dances to ensure we don’t forget them. Our April dance the first of our Tea Dances with live music by David Last and a “proper afternoon tea”, this year, fell one week before our Golden Wedding. As it was sold out we decided to celebrate with the dancers. As we are so well supported throughout the year we are able to provide live music twice a year and as usual David Last played spectacularly belting out some music that was wonderful to dance to. Our daughter made a celebration cake to go with the afternoon buffet tea and it was great to start our Golden Wedding celebrations with friends. After a family celebration lunch on Thursday we are travelling to London the following weekend for our Anniversary. |
