We have just returned from The Old Time Dance Society Ball of the Year event a busy but very enjoyable weekend. Over 80 members of The Old Time Dance Society, including 24 from Bath Old Time Dancers, attended the Ball of the Year weekend at Torquay, in the TLH Victoria Hotel. The weather was looking good for the weekend and everyone was looking forward to enjoying the delights of Torquay and the dancing.
David Last was our musician for the weekend and Christine and Robert Haywood got the weekend dancing underway as leaders for Friday night with a programme of Old Time favorites. We thoroughly enjoyed The Ball of the Year on Saturday led by Andrew Pigg and Paul Watkins. It was a fabulous night, one to remember. They led off beautifully and it was a joy to watch two top dancers. We particularly enjoyed the Melody Foxtrot that they danced as solos from both ends of the ballroom in perfect formation. Paul Watkins and Jeanette Fletcher led the Stardust Saunter their elegant style was a joy to watch. Andrew and Paul created a relaxed and fun evening that everyone enjoyed.
The Sunday night was different, Linda Fouracres-Rogers led her programme with a different partner for every dance, not easy as her partners came from all parts of the Country so she only had limited chance to dance with them all before the evening. It was another enjoyable evening and there were many who had tears in their eyes when Linda led the Dinky One Step with her husband Barry, who due to his limited mobility has not danced for a few years. The weekend would not have been the success it was without the wonderful music of David Last.

April
We were invited to the Kington Langley club run by Daphne Miflin that is held on every Monday evening, because she had a surprise for all her dancers, David Last was playing for her, we were made very welcome by Daphne and her group and it is well worth a visit if you are in the area.
March
Along with many from Bath Old Time Dancers we headed North again in March to Grange-over-Sands for the Old Time Dance Society Spring Weekend. We all thoroughly enjoyed the event and again we had great weather. The Cumbria Grand hotel was a very friendly hotel clean and comfortable with lots of lounges for groups to gather for a chat over a drink. Because we were so lucky with the weather we were able to get out and about in the day. Plus three great evenings of Old Time dancing in such a friendly atmosphere, including the Saturday night with Ann and John Rainey as leaders giving us a fabulous demonstration. Elizabeth Harrison was our musician for the weekend and we enjoyed some wonderful tunes to dance to. The journey home was quite eventful as we were held up near Gloucester due to goats on the motorway!
February
In February we travelled to Lincoln for the first Old Time Dance of 2024 organised by Jacqui & Allan Todd and Jean & John Parkinson. We were not sure we would be able to make it as sometimes we have snow in February but the sun shone and we had a good journey up. It was a great afternoon with a lovely friendly crowd. The cream scones are to die for, not to forget an excellent programme of Old Time Dancing.
